Entrance Guard
The entrance guard metal bars are spaced to allow only worker bees through, leaving the queen and drones locked in.
It could be used for about one week when installing packages or swarms, or when relocating a colony that was removed from a wall or hollow tree. The entrance will prevent the queen from leaving, causing the swarm or relocated colony to abscond. Once the queen lays eggs inside your box, the entrance guard could be removed since bees tend to stay with their brood.
Some beekeepers also use this entrance guard to avoid swarming by ensuring that the queen and drones stay in the hive, but we recommend using other swarm prevention/managing techniques.
Install with a hive strap or pin in place with a nail at each end. Ships assembled.
Available for 8-frame and 10-frame equipment.
